Burnley had a very difficult start to the season, at some point in October and November they were even sitting in last place, but then a somewhat surprising transformation of the results from February onwards saw the Clarets securing a highly unexpected top 10 finish. Once again coach Dyche overachieved with the modest group of players he had at his disposal. As announced earlier this year Burnley have no serious money for strengthening, reliance on fans’ revenue is hurting the team very bad since COVID hit, which main reason that no new signings have been made as of yet and, if anything, the squad is weaker and smaller than last season. Right now Burnley’s outlook for the season ahead is not great. Coach Dyche threatened to leave if some money are not found for strengthening. Even if he stays, there is not enough quality and depth in the group of players and, on top of it all, the health of the group right now is problematic with as many as 8 players reported to be nursing injuries just weeks before the start of the new campaign. The main strength of Burnley is their team spirit and their physicality, which at times turns into pure bullying. That said with VAR expected to improve this will become rarer and rarer sight, with increased punishment for over-physicality already announced for next season. Lack of money, depth, technically gifted players and somewhat predictable tactical approach from Dyche are all seen as serious weaknesses that could possibly sink Burnley down this season.

Target

With no budget to strengthen the squad and continuing to use a physical old-fashioned style of play, Burnley look like favourites for relegation right now.
