Eddie Howe has suffered a very trying summer in his first pre-season in charge of Burnley and already starting to feel the pressure despite just a six month stay at Turf Moor since arriving from Bournemouth. He has seen important players such as talisman Chris Eagles, Tyrone Mears, Steven Thompson and Chris Iwelumo depart through the exit doors and thus far has not replaced them with only Manchester City duo Ben Mee and Kieran Trippier arriving on loan. The Clarets fell by the wayside alarmingly at the back end of last season and there is not too much to be excited about for the coming campaign as things stand. Charlie Austin, who arrived shortly after Howe, last season should be back after picking up an immediate injury and his goals could be a feature for Burnley. But lack of squad depth could be their undoing and they must start picking up more wins on their travels. Howe is still fairly inexperienced so a difficult campaign could await.

Target

Fans will expect the play-offs but Howe may well have to be content with mid-table unless he can bring in more players.
