Partick Thistle avoided successive relegations but that can hardly be deemed as success. Gary Caldwell took charge after a poor start last season and eventually stabilised Thistle with some experienced signings. He made some unpopular decisions, but Partick are in a better position than before. Goalkeeper Scott Fox returns to Firhill after a successful spell at Ross County. Ryan Williamson and Tommy Robson will add some running power down the flanks. Kenny Miller, now 39 years old, is expected to provide the goals. Several talented players left Firhill including Aidan Fitzpatrick, Blair Spittal and fans-favourite Kris Doolan, with no obvious replacements yet. After two torrid seasons it’s difficult to see Partick transformed into title winners. At least the losing habit is broken and they can look up instead of down. They may make the play-offs, but currently they seem just an average Championship team. Partick have some highly experienced players in their ranks and won’t panic if they start the season slowly. Tom O’Ware is fit again after missing most of last season and should anchor their defence. Partick have lost much of their attacking flair and goal-threat over the summer. Kenny Miller may still be capable of scoring at this level of football, but his fitness record is not good.

Target

The play-offs. After survival last season this may be one of consolidation – the play-offs would be a bonus.
