Zulte Waregem had a dire season last year and could not wait for it to end, having won just once in 2020 and endured some dreadful losses. Yet the long-serving Francky Dury remains the man in charge in Waregem and he will be hoping to inspire some success after spending the last three seasons outside the top six. New additions to the squad have been mostly limited so far and only a couple of full-backs in Daniel Opare and Laurens de Bock have arrived so far. They both have good pedigree but have regressed massively in recent years and it remains to be seen what can they really offer. On the other hand, loanees Cyle Larin and Dmitri Oberlin are not around anymore after enjoying good campaigns last year and it is likely to be old heads Saido Berahino and Jelle Voossen that will carry the main scoring responsibilities. The lack of creative force in midfield is another issue for Dury and he will need to be active in the weeks to come if Waregem are to have a better campaign this season. Generally, it is hard to be too optimistic about Zulte’s prospects given the squad quality and depth at the moment and a finish around the 10th place seems most realistic.

Target

Should settle for a place in mid-table.
