Stadium | Turf Moor (opened 1883) Capacity: 21,944 Pitch Size: 105m x 68m Burnley have been resident at Turf Moor since 1883 when they were invited to play there by Burnley Cricket Club. The current ground incorporates stands built between 1969, in the case of the Cricket Field Stand (The Ladbrokes) and 1996 when the latest addition to the stadium the two tier James Hargreaves Stand was added. In 2007 ambitious plans were unveiled for a large scale redevelopment of the stadium. This included the replacement of the Cricket Field Stand, the addition of a variety of multi-purpose facilities and the construction of a second tier at the Bob Lord stand. The Global Financial Crisis & relegation would put pay to these plans. |
Recent History | Burnley's 1st season in the Premier League (09/10) was a disappointing one and saw them drop straight back down to the Championship. In 2012 Sean Dyche would be appointed manager, replacing the departing Eddie Howe who headed back to Bournemouth. The following season Burnley looked anything but promotion candidates, in fact the indications were that they would struggle during that campaign. On a shoestring budget and against the odds, Dyche lead The Clarets to an outstanding 2nd placed finish. Under Dyche, Burnley have secured an incredible 7th placed finish in the Premier League (17/18) and qualified for the Europa League. These achievements are all the more incredible given the small squad that Dyche relies on. |
