Stadium | The Estadi Ciutat de València has been the home ground for Levante since 1969. They’ve made it feel like home and it has quite a large capacity for a club of this size, at 26,000. They’re expanding it further in the coming years and will even work on the overall facilities. This should be really good for the atmosphere, because the current architecture of the ground means that a lot of sound is lost upwards and into the sky. Only one stand is currently covered and the gentle sloping uncovered stands don’t do much for the atmosphere, even when the ground is full. |
Recent History | Levante were almost never in the top division of Spanish football during the 20th century, as they sat in the shadows of their city rivals Valencia. Yet they’ve become a regular top-tier club in the 21st century, securing promotion to LaLiga in 2004 and spending all but four seasons since then in the top division. They’ve even reached Europe, qualifying for the 2012/13 Europa League season and even reaching the last 16. This is a club with a lot of turnover in the dugout and in the playing squad, but they almost always seem to find a way to reach the magic number of points that are needed to avoid relegation. |
