Stadium | Real Betis’ Estadio Benito Villamarín is the fourth-largest football stadium in Spain, with its capacity of 61,000. It is regularly full, with Betis fans known for their passion and for being some of the most dedicated in all of Spain. The club recently completed construction work on the stadium, knocking down the south stand which had been much lower than the other three stands. A new south stand was built and this is the same height as the rest of the ground, making for a caldron-esque atmosphere on match days. |
Recent History | After quite a messy divorce from former owner Manuel Ruiz de Lopera and after a period of financial uncertainty, Real Betis was taken over by a group led by fans Ángel Haro García and José Miguel López Catalán. Since then, the off-the-pitch results have been excellent as Real Betis have established smart business practices and have increased their income. In a sporting sense, they have recovered form a period of yo-yoing between the first and second tiers and have been in the top division now since 2015, even reaching Europe in 2018 under the polarising Quique Setién. It’s never boring at Real Betis and results have been mixed since then, but there is more stability in the boardroom than there used to be in the past. |
