Stadium | Real Sociedad have recently undertaken a very ambitious project to redevelop their Anoeta stadium. Ever since moving to the stadium in 1993, they had a problem with atmosphere due to the running track, so they decided to remove the track and to dig down to install another few rows of seating that brings the fans right up to the edge of the pitch. Immediately, the atmosphere improved. Now known as the Reale Arena for sponsorship reasons, the venue boasts a capacity of 40,000 and has become one of the most impressive in all of LaLiga. |
Recent History | Real Sociedad are one of the most successful clubs in the history of Spanish football. They are one of just six clubs to have won multiple league titles, doing so in back-to-back seasons in 1980/81 and 1981/82. In recent times, they’ve not really come close to competing for the title, but they have generally remained a first division team. They had three years in the second tier in 2007/08, 2008/09 and 2009/10, but have remained a first-tier team since then and have even made it into Europe on a few occasions. At this stage in their history, qualifying for the Europa League is their annual objective. |
