Anzhi went mightily close to relegation last season after enduring a major downsizing and overhaul in the spring but they eventually had just about enough to scrape through, finishing just above the bottom four. It was a reason to be content with the work done by Aleksandr Grigoryan and the young coach will look to build on that and make the Dagestan side more of an established mid-table force this season. It has been a close season of almost breathless transfer activity for the Eagles as they have so far brought in a huge number of new players. Yet, among them, there are very few that actually catch the eye and have the ability to trasform the fortunes of the team. Konstantin Bazelyuk might prove a good addition in attack as the striker looks to realise the potential that made everyone at CSKA Moscow very excited about him a few years ago. Vadim Afonin and Vladimir Poluyakhtov are assured and reliable additions from the relegated Orenburg side. Meanwhile, Pavel Karasev and Igor Udalyi are coming from Grigoryan's former side, SKA Khabarovsk, fresh from winning promotion, and should establish themselves as regulars. However, Anzhi lost some of their stars in Aleksandr Zhirov, Ayaz Guliev and Pylyp Budkivskyi overthe summer so there is not really much quality or varied option in this squad. Arsenal Khubulov is a fine winger on his day while Adlan Katsaev is a decent player too but it is all very mediocre in the squad as a whole. Yet, there are worse sides than Anzhi in this league and Grigoryan should be able to steer this unexciting side to a place narrowly above the bottom four over the course of the season.

Target

Facing a tough battle at the bottom end of the table with a mediocre squad but should be able to at least avoid the bottom two spots.
