Back into League One after a mere one-year stay in the second tier, Charlton are a side badly plagued by off-field problems. The Addics reportedly find themselves in an extremely difficult financial situation and could even be reportedly expelled from the Football League if they can find neither a buyer or an evidence of funds. With what happened to Bury last season, it is hard to ignore suggestions of such possibilities. While talks of a potential takeover seem to surface each and every week, nothing concrete has come out of this just yet and the Addics are surrounded by uncertainty. Lee Bowyer remains in charge but will obviously be working with what is a much weaker squad than the one he had available last season. Star striker Lyle Taylor has left, as has the experienced Tomer Hemed, while Chris Solly, Naby Sarr and Josh Cullen are all no longer at the club. The Addics obviously still have some pull at this level and have been able to complete the captures of two proven League One players in Alex Gilbey and Conor Washington. As things stand, their squad is still good enough to seriously compete at this level. However, the problem is that things look set to get worse before they get better, meaning that further players could leave.

Target

Charlton would be aiming for a swift return to the second tier in normal circumstances, but things could get really ugly for them if they do not get their finances in order.
