Gillingham have had a decent 2019/20 campaign and were even hoping for a play-off push before the season was cut short. Steve Evans has installed his well-known values into the Gills, who have become incredibly tough to break down and built their campaign around that. However, Evans will have to build a new back four this time around, as Max Ehmer, Thomas O'Connor and Alfie Jones are all no longer with the club, leaving Connor Ogilvie as the sole regular member of last season's defence stil at the club. Ryan Jackson and Zech Medley both signed and will be hoping to become regulars in defence, while Evans has also decided to increase his options in the middle of the park, bringing in Jacob Mellis, Kyle Depsey, Alex MacDonald and Trae Coyle, who are all expected to see significant playing time. Evans will need some of them to step up, as the Gills have lost an important player in the middle of the park in Mark Byrne. All in all, the Gills have lost several regular players, but have not done so without replacing them. The squad looks to be on a similar level to last time around and a lot will depend on how quickly their new-look side will gel.

Target

The target is to continue their improvement under Evans and push for a play-off place, but a potential problem is that they are among the sides that changed the most.
