St.Gallen have been on a steady downward trend in the last year and a half, with the previous season seeing the Green-Whites finish only four points above Zurich, who got relegated. Jeff Saibene realized early on that he was out of ideas on how to take them forward and opted to resign, but Joe Zinnbauer has really not delivered any sort of improvement since taking over. The Green-Whites' main problem has been their lack of goals for a while now - they scored only 41 in 36 last season, less than any other side in the league, and it is hardly a surprise that they used the summer to make changes in the attacking department. Edgar Salli, who had flashes of quality last season, has left, but they have completed the signings of Roman Buess, Mohamed Gouaida and Siefedin Chabbi, with Buess being a proven Super League player and the other two also expected to receive signifcant playing time. They have also completed the capture of Toko, a quality midfielder who has made a name for himself playing for Grasshopper and joins after a spell with Turkish side Eskisehirspor. The list of players that have left might seem daunting due to its size, but it is fair to say that it was simply a case of St.Gallen getting rid of dead wood, as Salli is the only player out of those that have left that was a regular last season. All in all, the Green-Whites seem to at least be working on their problems, but only time will tell if they have shopped wisely.

Target

Their squad looks a bit better than their last season's one, but the improvements that they have had certainly do not seem massive. They would be happy with a midtable finish, as long as they stay far away from trouble.
