The 2017/18 season saw St.Gallen manage to qualify for Europe and therefore achieve their pre-season goal, but their fans will be feeling a sense of dread after seeing the Green-Whites struggle in the latter stages of the campaign and part ways with manager Giorgio Contini. Boro Kuzmanovic spent the last month of the previous season in charge and there was little doubt that the Green-Whites opted against extending his deal, given that the side was in a state of free fall under him. Peter Zeidler, known in Switzerland for his relatively recent stint with Sion, will be their new manager, having agreed to take over late in the previous season. Skipper Toko, who spent the majority of the previous season out injured, departs after not being offered a new contract, while super-talented defender Jasper van der Werff was snapped by Salzburg. The departure of Runar Sigurjonsson is another blow, as the attacking midfielder returns to parent club Grasshopper following the end of his loan stay. The list of players that joined is consisted mostly of stabs in dark, with players such as Dereck Kutesa and Milan Vilotic being proven Super League quality, but both looking to resurrect their careers after struggling for playing time over the recent months, with the latter spending the last three months of the previous season frozen out of Grasshopper's squad to criticizing their manager. Zeidler has also used his ties with former club Salzburg to loan in talented attacking midfielder Majeed Ashimeru and St.Gallen's squad as a whole looks to be on a level similar to the previous season's one.

Target

Their goal will be to finish in the top half of the table and qualify for Europe. They are badly short of momentum following their abysmal form in the late stages of the previous season and Zeidler has a tricky task ahead of him.
