Football Season Review

№3: Wolfsberger AC

Wolfsberger had a superb 2018/19 season but were widely expected not to repeat it after losing Christian Ilzer to Austria and replacing him with the unproven Gerhard Struber. The Wolves went on to make a mockery of such predictions, as they went on to have an excellent campaign and only narrowly missed out on finishing second. They were certainly helped by striking gold in the transfer market with the signing of Schon Weissman, who finished Bundesliga top scorer in his first season in Austria. Apart from doing well domestically, the Wolves also produced some eye-catching displays in their Europa League group, with their 4:0 away win at Borussia Monchengladbach being arguably the highlight of their season. The Wolves lost another manager midway through the season, as Struber not only joined Barnsley but also took several first-team players with him. His replacement, Ferdinand Feldhofer, had a tough job on his hands but managed to maintain his side's form and guide them to an excellent third-place finish. The big question regarding the Wolves is whether they can reinvent themselves again in the summer, which will almost certainly see them lose Weissman.
