Football Season Review

Champions: Young Boys Bern

Young Boys have clinched their third consecutive domestic title, but were no where near as comfortable as they hoped they would be. The first disappointment of their season came rather late on, as they failed to qualify for the Champions League group stage after losing to Red Star Belgrade on away goals. They made a bright start to the Europa League, winning two of their opening three, but narrowly failed to progress after failing to win in their final three matches. Domestically, the Berners failed to open up a significant lead at the top of the table as in recent campaigns and spent a large chunk of the second half of the season in second place, with their abysmal away form allowing St.Gallen to leapfrog them. However, Gerardo Seoane's men were able to step up when it mattered - they finished the season strongly and eventually won the title. The season was also notable for what could be called a generation change, as both Guillaume Hoarau and Miralem Sulejmani, key men in the previous campaigns, hardly featured due to frequent injury issues and are set to leave in the summer.
