Football Season Review

№8: Sion

After a few relatively stable seasons, Sion have had the sort of turbulent campaign that they were known for, having had four managerial changes and barely surviving the drop. Stephane Henchoz started the season as their manager and opted to leave the club early in the campaign by his own choice, due to disagreements with the club's hierarchy. The time under Henchoz proved by far the best period they had in the season, having displayed relegation form between his departure and the arrival of Paolo Tramezzani, who finally managed to steady the ship. Notably, Ricardo Dionisio was appointed after the winter break, only to be fired after the pandemic-enforced break, with the club explaining that: "The situation was too difficult to take a risk on a manager unproven in the top flight.". They were eventually justified in their decision, as Tramezzani did manage to get his men to produce some good displays and Sion avoided finishing in the bottom two as a consequence. However, the Sitteners were actually hoping for an European place before the season started and their aim remains so next time around.
