Football Season Review

Champions: Young Boys Bern

Despite keeping their entire title-winning squad from last season, the Berners had reasons to worry going into the new season, having lost their highly-rated manager Adi Hutter to Eintracht Frankfurt. These fears proved to have been completely unfounded, as the Berners ended up walking the league - they hardly dropped any points in the first half of the season and ended up having the season all but secured going into the second half of the campaign. Moreover, they also enjoyed European success, having managed to make the group stage of the Champions League. They did not have luck in the draw for the biggest European competition, as they were drawn in a group with Juventus, Manchester United and Valencia and duly finished bottom, but gave a good account of themselves. The only blemish on their season was the fact that they once again failed to win the Swiss Cup, having suffered a shock 4:0 defeat in the hands of Luzern. However, the Berners will be absolutely delighted with how they have done. They enjoyed European success and proved that their last season's title was no fluke. They claimed a 3:1 win over Basel near the end of the season, sending out a clear message that, despite the Red-Blues' recent resurgence, the Berners remain the team to beat.
