Football Season Review

№5: Borussia Monchengladbach

Borussia Monchengladbach had to pay the price for a major dip in form in the final weeks of the season as they finished outside the top four following a defeat in their final match. Gladbach enjoyed an excellent campaign for majority of the season and were even the closest challengers to Borussia Dortmund for sometime midway through the season. Key to their excellent form was a tight defense with Gladbach ending the campaign by conceding the third lowest goals in the Bundesliga. Complementing their solid defensive displays were a number of eye catching performances by Thorgan Hazard who ended the season with 10 goals and 10 assists and formed a crucial component of their attack. Finding the back of the net though was a problem for Gladbach who had the worst record in terms of goals scored amongst the teams finishing in the top half of the table Dieter Hecking will be disappointed Gladbach were not able to achieve their pre-season aim of Champions League qualification and, with Hazard being sold to Dortmund, the club will need to not only bring in a suitable replacement but also improve their options in the attack if they are to finish in the top four next season

Player of the Season: Thorgan Hazard
