Football Season Review

№3: RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig achieved their minimum aim of Champions League football as they finished third in the Bundesliga season while also coming within 90 minutes of lifting their first major trophy only to suffer a heavy defeat in the DFB Cup final. Leipzig overcame a slow start to show improvement in all areas but none more so at the back as they ended the campaign with the best defensive record, conceding just 29 goals and registering the most number of cleansheets. Timo Werner and Yussuf Poulsen once again enjoyed a fruitful campaign up front with both the players breaching the 15-goal mark. It was at the back though where a number of good performances could be found with Marcel Halstenberg proving to be their best player as he was not only solid defensively, but also contributed going forward with three goals and six assists. Overall it was a successful campaign for Ralf Rangnick though the German coach will not be continuing after being appointed as the sporting director for the next season and Leipzig have confirmed Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann will be taking over the responsibilities on the pitch. Leipzig have already brought in Hannes Wolf and Luan Candido but the club will need to hold on to their best players to improve for the next season with question marks being raised on the futures of Werner, Emil Forsberg and Marcel Sabitzer

Player of the Season: Marcel Halstenberg
