Football Season Review

№19: Huesca

This was Huesca’s first ever season in the top division of Spanish football, but their stay in LaLiga only lasted one season as they suffered a relegation that few at the club can have any complaints about. From the sixth round to the last, Huesca were in the relegation zone. After starting the season with four points from their first two matches, they didn’t win again in 2018. That 17-match winless run really cost them as it meant they were already eight points from safety as they entered 2019. Even a change in coach didn’t really help. Leo Franco was replaced by Francisco after eight rounds and Huesca played better under the latter, but results didn’t improve by much. The simple truth is that Huesca’s squad wasn’t good enough. Even when they tried to improve the squad in January by bringing in a little more quality, it still wasn’t enough. There were some talents such as Ezequiel Avila and Cucho, but this wasn’t enough and Huesca went down without too much of a fight. For next season as they try to come back up they’ll need to do so with a new coach after Francisco departed. They’ll also need to build a new squad as many of the players were on short-term deals and are departing too.
