Football Season Review

№6: Liverpool

Despite finishing second in 2014, this was always going to be a difficult season for Liverpool following the departure of Luis Suarez. Brendan Rodgers spent over £100 million on new players, but with the season now over it is fair to say the majority of the new signings have been inconsistent at best. After a poor start to the season results and performances started to improve in December as Rodgers began to get the best out of his players in a 3-4-2-1 formation. A place in the top four was looking possible until the Reds fell away sharply towards the end of March. They were then beaten at the semi final stage of the FA Cup following a terrible performance against Aston Villa. Three defeats and two draws in their final six Premier League outings saw them miss out on fifth place and they were embarrassed on the final day of the season by six goals to one by Stoke City. Rodgers needs to add four or five top quality players to have any chance of a top four finish next season.
