Borussia Monchengladbach had a simply wonderful campaign last year and they blew away all expectations by finishing in the top four. That allowed them entry to the Champions League qualifiers and they will know reaching the group stage of this competition will provide them with money enough to stabilise the club for years to come. On the park though they would normally look to improve season upon season but even Lucien Favre is likely to concede that bettering last year is close to impossible. Instead if they can finish in the top seven to return to Europe again it will be considered a good effort and the key to achieving this goal will be replacing Marco Reus. The star striker was a wonderful performer and scored several goals and the marquee signing of Luuk de Jong will be charged with stepping into his shoes. De Camargo is also capable of scoring goals while Mlapa is another intriguing newcomer who will probably start his campaign on the bench. The defence also has a major question mark without the excellent Dante but Soto and Brouwers can compete to join Stranzl in the back four while with ter Stegen in goals, clean sheets should not be in short supply.

Target

Gladbach are unlikely to repeat their success of last season and even a top seven finish here would be a big achievement.
