After several years of blowing promotion campaigns when success looked certain, Furth finally found the winning formula last year and stormed to the top flight. They are a famous club having enjoyed glory years competing with local rivals Nurnberg between the wars but since then they have sunk considerably and if they are considered a very likely candidate for relegation this season. Grun is a good 'keeper who will be severely tested while the losing Karaslavov, Schrock, Schahin and Occean from the team in front of him certainly does not bode well. Of the new additions, several are unknown but the likes of Sobiech and Hesl should step up from the lower level while Stieber and Petsos have experience in the top division even if they are are mid-table players at best. From the previous squad Onuegbu, Asamoah and Nothe are still in place to chase goals while in the midfield the work and creativity of Sararer and Furstner will be appreciated. The side last season effectively played two wingers at full back in an exceptionally attacking 4-4-2 and deciding whether to repeat this gamble against stronger opposition is the manager's main dilemma. Furth will certainly give everything this year but their squad is weak in comparison to others and they may well struggle.

Target

Simply staying up this season would be excellent for Greuther Furth.
