Football Season Guide

The past season was an exciting one for Chievo Verona as they managed to reach safety early on, having set their feet in the top 10 of the league, without ever being involved in the struggle against relegation. Coach Maran, the master of their umpteenth miracle in Serie A, received some offers from other clubs but he eventually decided to remain at the helm of the Flying Donkeys. With just a few more days left before the beginning of the new season, the feeling is that Chievo Verona’s transfer campaign has not really started yet. In fact, apart from Sorrentino, who returned to the club after an experience with Palermo, a team he could not play anymore for since falling off with coach Ballardini, and is set to replace the departed Bizzarri, no other major signings were made. Just a bunch of youngsters with the main exception of Antonio Cinelli, a midfielder coming from Cagliari. With the unlucky Mattiello, he suffered two heavy injuries in the last two seasons, returned to his parent club, Juventus, after the end of his loan, two more players left. The experienced Pepe and Pinzi failed to leave a mark in the past campaign and so they were released. Thus, the starting eleven should hardly be touched: Sorrentino would act in goals while Cacciatore and Gobbi would be the full-backs with Gamberini and Cesar as centrebacks; Castro, or Rigoni if the former ends up quitting, Radovanovic and Hetemaj would be the midfielders with Birsa as the attacking midfielder to support an attack formed by Meggiorini and Inglese, with Floro Flores and Pellissier as the alternatives up-front. Or Balotelli, if they manage convincing him to join them.
