Since their return to the Serie A in 2011 and despite some point-deduction due to an indirect involvement in match-fixing, Atalanta regularly managed reaching safety with some ease. As a matter of fact, they succeeded being impressively brilliant two seasons ago while in their last campaign they actually lost some of that brilliancy. However, coach Colantuono certainly deserved being confirmed at the helm of the team for his capability in giving his boys both a soul and a play. Unlike the previous seasons, when the most promising players were sold to some richer teams, this time around, the management opted for the confirm of most of the squad while signing in some new players, both experienced and emergent. On the other hand, so far, only Biondini, Ferri and Radovanovic were let go as they had failed to leave a mark on the team. For the new season, Colantuono could still adopt a 4-4-2 formation, with the usual variants such as a 4-3-1-2 or a 4-3-2-1. Consigli will still be the man in goals while some adjustments will affect the back four, the most troubled line in the past campaign. Nica should be the new right-back with Yepes gaining himself a place at the centre of the defence alongside Stendardo, with Lucchini, Canini and Contini providing for cover. Del Grosso should act again as the left-back. In the midfield, Migliaccio should join key-man Cigarini and Carmona with Moralez and Bonaventura alternating as the attacking midfielders or acting on the right flank of the midfield. Denis and Livaja should be confirmed as the forward two. Returning Ardemagni, recovered Marilungo and De Luca should give the attack the depth they lacked in the past season.

Target

As long as they avoid depending uniquely on Denis for the goals, Atalanta seem likely to reach a quiet safety.
