In their almost centennial history, Sassuolo had never reached the top flight of the Italian football. Against all expectations, they made it in the past springtime when they succeeded dominating the Serie B thanks to a very aggressive and offensive-minded football. Coach Di Francesco was the author of such a miracle and he was confirmed at the helm of the team even in Serie A. His previous experience at the top level was rather negative. In fact, he was sacked from Lecce after a couple of months since the beginning of the season as the team was bottom-placed despite a spectacular play. This time around, he will hope for things to go better but it will be really hard since his boys are all extremely young and with a limited experience. During the summer, a few players had to quit as their loans had expired: this was particularly the case for Boakye, Chibsah and Catellani. Thus, the management had to invest in the strengthening of the squad. Rosati arrived from Napoli, where he seldom had the chance to play, and he is expected to find a starting place in goals. Acerbi, who is dealing with a serious illness, and Rossini should also provide some experience for the back four where Gazzola, Antei, Terranova and Longhi. Kurtic is likely to join Magnanelli and Bianchi adding some muscle and brains in the middle of the park. Zaza, who impressed a lot while with Ascoli, is expected to provide the goals that should help Sassuolo reach their safety.

Target

Sassuolo will be fighting for their survival but it will be extremely difficult as the squad needs some strengthening both in the midfield and up-front. At the moment, they are a bit too light for the Serie A.
