Once the “Special One” Mourinho left after reaching the treble in 2010, Inter management decided for a technical renewal that was not matched by a substantial squad refounding. Because of that, they only succeeded getting from bad to worse with coaches being sacked even when they were not particularly responsible. So, Benitez, Leonardo, Gasperini, Ranieri and Stramaccioni all received the kiss of death of President Moratti. The ninth standing obtained in the past campaign led to the signing of Mazzarri, whose experience with Napoli had come to an end: the time for experiments is over, now it should be the time for results. Notwithstanding Mazzarri’s arrival, though, plenty has still to be done in terms of the transfer campaign and the limited amount of money spent stand there to prove it. Some players who had failed their chances, such as Rocchi, Silvestre and Cassano, were let go while the Old Guard, in this case Stankovic, keeps on being dismantled. The attack was given plenty of new blood with Icardi and Belfodil likely to play a major role, considering Milito’s need to recover from a serious injury. The defence saw the arrival of Andreolli, Campagnaro and Rolando, these two being familiar faces for the coach, and they are all likely to gain some playing time in the 3-5-2 adopted by Mazzarri, especially considering that players like Samuel can no longer guarantee a full season. For the midfield, young Laxalt and Botta were the main signing so far. And this could not be enough: Kovacic, Cambiasso, Guarin, Pereira were far from extraordinary only a few months ago. Since Inter in the past season faced an incredible number of injuries, they are expected to have solved such an issue, possibly caused by training systems or deficits from the medical department.

Target

Inter will try and fight for a place in the top 3 but, things as they are, they seem more likely to struggle for some place in the Europa League. The absence from the European scene could be an advantage.
