The Colorado Rapids endured a torrid 2017 Major League Soccer season, with the campaign failing to live up to the Rapids’ previous successful 2016. Colorado would find themselves sitting second bottom of the Western Conference table by the end of the year, with just 33 points to their name. Scoring just 31 goals all season, Colorado were the joint worst goal scorers in the whole of MLS, and will need to make drastic improvements if they want to put in a competitive display this season. After failing to improve his team’s horrendous form, head coach Pablo Mastroeni, would find himself relieved of his duties midway through the season. Perhaps something for Colorado fans to look forward to however, is the appointment of an exciting young manager. Englishman, Anthony Hudson, was assigned to the role at the end of November, and he will hope to inject some energy and enthusiasm into the squad. At just 36 years of age, Hudson is the youngest manager in the entire league this season, and faces the tough challenge of turning things around for the Rapids. Colorado have added a number of fresh faces to their ranks this season, with some exciting prospects coming in. With the likes of Dillon Powers, Joshua Gatt, Mohamad Saeid and Bobby Burling having all moved on, Anthony Hudson has had to reinforce in all areas, so it will be interesting to see how well the Rapids can gel together. The trio of Joe Mason, Tommy Smith and Jack Price all make the switch from the English Championship to MLS, with Mason one to look out for in front of goal. Other names such as Ranger’s Danny Wilson, and Swede Johan Blomberg have also made the move to Commerce City, and will be looking to make an instant impact.

Target

As for most sides in MLS, the playoffs are always the target. But with an inexperienced manager and so many new additions to the team, the Rapids will simply want to be in contention for the lower playoff positions come the end of the season.
