A very disappointing campaign for Dundee last term saw them finish in eighth position, and with nothing less than a top-six place the remit for manager Paul Hartley, the pressure is on the Dees to deliver this season. An underwhelming start in the Scottish League Cup group stages hasn't exactly inspired the Dundee faithful, with a disappointing draw against East Fife and a shocking defeat to Peterhead worrying blips so far. They did overcome Dumbarton in a 6-2 hammering, but a leaky backline looks like it will need some solving this season. The Dees were missing James McPake throughout last season, and having him at the back to partner either Julen Etxabeguren or Darren O'Dea should go a long way to improving the Taysiders' fotunes this season. They've so far recruited wisely this season, bringing in the likes of James Vincent, Danny Williams, and Mark O'Hara as proven Premiership talent. Michael Duffy has also been brought in to try and soften the blow of losing top marksman Kane Hemmings, but it's a loss that may very well have huge implications on Dundee's attacking threat this season. The top six looks a good bit off for the squad Dundee have, especially after losing Paul McGinn to Chesterfield in the Summer, but that has always been Hartley's remit since coming to Dundee, and the pressure is on to deliver this season. A cup run would also be a boost after humiliating losses to Rangers and Dunfermline in the Scottish and Scottish League Cup respectively, but improvement in the league is the main priority this term.

Target

A top six place is always the target for Dundee, but with the way the squad is looking, they may have to look at just being in the fight for it as the main target. Improving on last season's second round exit to Dunfermline in the League Cup is also important, but they would sacrifice that for a top-six place.
