Inverness Caledonian Thistle may have just missed out on a top-six place last season, but they finished the campaign strongly and looked to be playing some good football as the season ended. However it's back to the drawing board this season as John Hughes left the club over the Summer to be replaced by midfielder Richie Foran. The Caley Jags have started off strongly in this season's League Cup, going unbeaten in 90 minutes in all three of their games so far, winning against Cowdenbeath and a notable 5-1 hammering of Dunfermline Athletic respectively. Foran seems to be looking for Inverness to play to their strengths of passing the ball on the deck and not looking for may high balls, and in that respect he is almost carrying forward the blueprint that Hughes left behind. Despite the fact their aim will most certainly be a top-six place, they do seem to be a bit short in some areas of the pitch, especially midfield. With Nathaniel Wedderburn, Liam Hughes, Ryan Williams, James Vincent, and Danny Williams all leaving the club, a few more midfield reinforcements would be ideal to help cope with the rigours of the season. Vincent and Danny Williams' departures will be even more so of a set-back considering they've joined fellow top-six hopefuls Dundee, and Caley need to find adequate replacements as soon as possible. Miles Storey's completion of his loan spell and subsequent switch to Aberdeen is a big blow for Caley as well, with the 11-goal striker one of Caley's brightest sparks last term, and with Jordan Roberts leaving, all eyes will be on the new man from Sheffield United, Scott Boden, to fire the goals necessary to secure a top-six place for the Highlanders. Caley did well to get to the quarter-finals in both of last season's cup competitions, but Foran will have it in his plans to take the club back to Hampden if possible. However, his first step will be to ensure that Inverness remain a top-six club in Scotland, and to do that he needs a bit more strength in depth before the transfer window closes.

Target

Nothing less than a top-six place will be acceptable for Inverness this season. Another trip to Hampden Park would be nice, but that should only be considered a secondary objective.
