Since coach Montella’s arrival at the helm of the team in 2012, highly ambitious Fiorentina have been aiming at reaching the top 3 of the Italian football, which would have granted them a place in the elite of the European football. Unfortunately for them, though, so far they proved incapable of making the needed quantum leap and regularly ended up on the fourth rung of the ladder. In order to overcome the gap existing between them and their main rivals, Juventus, Roma and Napoli, the management are trying hard to maintain the backbone of the squad unaltered, rejecting all the offers made so far for such stars as Cuadrado and Rossi. At the very same time, they have also tried trimming the squad by letting some players such as Matri and Anderson, who proved to be real disappointments, and an aging Ambrosini go while loaning out some hopeful youths, such as Compper, Rebic, Bakic and Zohore. Just as well, in order to replace them, they called back home some youngsters who imposed themselves during their stints elsewhere on loan. This is certainly Bernardeschi’s and Babacar’s case: they impressed a lot while in Serie B with Crotone and Modena respectively. Among the newcomers, Romanian Tatarusanu could represent a valid alternative to the never-appreciated Neto in goals while Basanta could become a protagonist in the defence alongside Savic and Rodriguez. Marin could certainly represent the surprise of the season, especially if Cuadrado ends up leaving before the season kicks off.

Target

Fiorentina should have no problems reaching the European spots but they still do not seem ready to fight also for a place in the Champions League.
