Fleetwood are coming from a rather difficult season which saw them struggle with relegation throughout the campaign and securing their League One status only in the final round of the season. The Fishermen have earned themselves the reputation of being a side that plays attractive football, only to be repeatedly frustrated by their poor finishing, with none of the many short-term attacking signings that they made really managing them to solve this problem. Steven Pressley was very active in the summer transfer market, getting rid of what can only be described as deadwood in the squad, with the only player to have left that will be genuinely missed being keeper Chris Maxwell, but the Fishermen have signed a proven replacement in Chris Neal. As they usually do, they have signed a number of players from lower divisions, although their list of arrivals does contain a couple of proven League One names in Ashley Eastham and Cian Bolger. All seemed set for Fleetwood to enter the new season with optimism and hope, but the club was suddenly dragged into turmoil with less than two weeks before the new season's kick-off, as Pressley surprisingly opted to hand in his resignation following a meeting with the board. Fleetwood did not need too much time to name a new boss, as they have signed Uwe Rosler, who will be looking to rebuild his faltering reputation, and the German seems like a good appointment, having done wonders with Brentford in his previous League One stint. However, he will have less than a week to get to know his new players before the season kicks off, so the timing of his appointment was definitely less than ideal.

Target

The big task for Rosler will be to solve their scoring problems and, if he manages to do that and maintain the level of football played last season, Fleetwood could even genuinely hope to finish inside the top half of the table.
