Swindon have earned themselves a reputation of being a club whose sides play attractive, passing football, and for having the ability to stay above water and usually finish in the top half despite repeatedly losing key players. They owe this ability to their excellent youth system and their utilization of loan market, but it is an ability that will be severely tested in the upcoming season, as the Robins have lost a number of players during the summer, with the biggest loss certainly being the departure of their top scorer Nicky Ajose, whose stellar form earned him a move to Charlton. Luke Williams, who has signed a five-year contract with the club midway through the previous season, now needs to reorganize his side, but a mere glance at Swindon's current squad reveals a side lacking in numbers, experience and quality. If it was not for the loan market and the certainty that the Robins will look to exploit it as much as possible, they would be among the favourites to go down, but their reputation for working well with youngsters means that their pulling power in the loan market is considerate, and they are not expect to have any troubles bringing in promising youngsters. They have been close to promotion on several occasions over the recent years, but they will not have any aspirations of that sort this time around, as even five top class on-loan players would be unlikely to turn this poor Robins' side into genuine candidates to go up.

Target

They will be looking to finish in midtable, but will need to pick their loanees well in order to achieve this. The big question will be how they will manage to compensate for Ajose's departure. They are almost certain to sign at least one striker on loan and, if they do not choose wisely, they could be up for a difficult season.
