A poor end to the 2019/20 season, after the return from the coronavirus pause, saw Getafe fall out of the European places. They had been on course to qualify for the Europa League again, but ultimately fell short. That means, though, that they should benefit this year from having free midweeks. They’ll also be thrilled that their terrific coach Jose Bordalas agreed to stay, when it had looked like he could depart. A couple of important players have left, as is to be expected at a club like Getafe. But, overall, this transfer window has been really positive. They wanted to strengthen and get younger in attack and that’s exactly what they’ve done, bringing in Enes Unal and Cucho, as well as some other useful forward players. This could make attack even more of a strength for Getafe, in addition to their excellent defence. Last season they had the fourth best defensive record in the league and will be confident of remaining strong at the back. There aren’t many weaknesses in this Getafe squad. Considering the budget they have, they punch well above their weight. Although they finished last season poorly, that can be put down mostly to injuries and some players running out of contract, which shouldn’t be an issue going forward.

Target

Europa League qualification. Two years ago Getafe made it into the Europa League, then last year they just missed out. They should be considered a contender to make it back into Europe this year.
