PSV Eindhoven's 2016/2017 campaign was rather disappointing to be honest. They were the title holders and had the potential to again to push for silverware but Phillip Cocu's men dropped way too many points against weaker sides which eventually resulted 3rd spot after 34 games. The supporters will expect better days after the summer and Cocu's mission is to put the pressure on Feyenoord and Ajax again with better performances. The main problem last year was the lack of goals. Luuk de Jong, who bagged 46 goals in two seasons for PSV Eindhoven in the past, somehow failed to show his qualities last term and his 8 goals didn't help that much. The experienced striker will get a new opportunity to show his skills but he will have to perform this time as youngsters like Jurgen Locadia and Sam Lammers will be motivated to grab his spot. Meanhwile, PSV Eindhoven had to react on the transfer market as well. Experienced players like Hector Moreno, Andres Guardado and Jetro Willems left the club during the Summer. Derrick Luckassen came over from AZ Alkmaar to fill the gap in defence but this will be his first season for a top side and he could need some time to adjust. The most promising signing in Eindhoven is Hirving Lozano. Guardado and Moreno left PSV Eindhoven as mentioned before but the Mexican connection did result in a new arrival in the Philips Stadium. The young and promising winger is expected to push for a spot in attack from day one and he should be able to push the performances to a higher level. The fact is however that PSV Eindhoven will have to add more new players/quality to the squad to really push for the title again. The club has a decent budget to enter the market again though and new arrivals should arrive in Eindhoven before the transfer deadline. The supporters will expect a better finishing position in 2018 and Cocu should be able to achieve this if two or three quality players join the Eindhoven outfit.

Target

Competing for the title and sealing a better finishing spot than last season.
