Willem II had quite a modest campaign during the previous season. They stayed out of relegation zone troubles and ensured themselves of another year in the Eredivisie with a few games left to play. They could even have qualified for the Europa League play-offs with a strong finish to the season but they failed to keep their hopes alive by recording a few disappointing results as soon as the pressure was off, having secured their place in the Eredivisie for the upcoming season. Willem II finished the season in 13th spot on the ranking table and they are expected to finish the upcoming campaign in a similar position as well, although they might be aiming a little higher themselves. Quite a lot of players have left the club and the contracts of several of them were not extended. A regular player like Erik Falkenburg has been released while goalkeeper Kostas Lamprou made a transfer to Ajax as a free agent. Other regular players like Pele van Anholt, Derrick Tshimanga, Anouar Kali and Funso Ojo have all made transfers. Kali has returned to FC Utrecht, while the other three have crossed the border to sign at a new club outside the Netherlands. Timon Wellenreuther has been taken from from Schalke 04 and he will most likely replace Lamprou as the number 1 goalkeeper. Fernando Lewis and Konstantinos Tsimikas could be awarded with spots in the starting line-up at the beginning of the campaign after several defenders have decided to leave the club. Coach, Erwin van de Looi, will be hoping for a few more additions to his squad as several players have left the club while not as many new players have been signed so far. However, the transfer window will close on the 31st of August which means that there's still time left to strengthen the squad. Although the final outcome of the season might be similar to the previous campaign, the fans will be hoping for more spectacular performances and results from Willem II.

Target

Staying away from relegation zone troubles will be the main target. Therefore, a final ranking between 10th and 13th spot would be a satisfying achievement.
