Young Boys are coming from winning the domestic double after a tight title race, with the side pushing them surprisingly not being Basel, but instead St.Gallen. The Berners have won the last three domestic titles and, while their form in the previous campaign was not as good as in the other two, they managed to switch gears when things mattered and won the title thanks to an excellent run of form after the corona virus break. As expected, a considerable number of players have left the club. Guillaume Hoarau, one of the heroes of their renaissance, has left, with injuries and age getting the better of him. However, Miralem Sulejmani, originally expected to also depart, has signed a one-year extension. The sole area of the team that has considerably changed is the defence. Saidy Janko and Frederik Sorensen are back with their parent clubs following their loans, while Jordan Lotomba will continue his career with Nice in France. Quentin Maceiras and Silvan Hefti have therefore been signed as like-for-like replacements, but the Berners have not replaced the sheer number of players who have left, obviously looking to cut costs due to the pandemic, as did several other sides in the division. Their reducing squad depth will be a worry, especially if they need to balance between Europe and the domestic league, but, with Basel not really trying to make the step up during the summer, they once again look like the favourites to win the league.

Target

Champions in each of the previous three seasons, they will want to make it four in a row.
