  •  A look at 10 of the most high-profile rumours
  •  An evaluation of how likely they are to happen

While competitive football may have been halted due to the coronavirus crisis, transfer rumours continue to hit the headlines. It’s unclear how exactly the 2020 summer transfer window will work and how long it’ll be, but the market will be able to carry on in some form and that means that football fans will get their fix of transfer market drama.

Here, we take a look at 10 of the top transfer rumours of the moment, the ones being discussed the most in the newspapers and by insiders. We explain the background and also rate how likely they are to come to fruition this summer.

Miralem Pjanić: Juventus to Barcelona

Having just turned 30, Miralem Pjanić still has a lot of football left in his boots and he could be performing at the Camp Nou for the next few years of his career. The Juventus midfielder has been linked with Barcelona and Fabio Paratici, the sporting director at the Turin-based club, has even revealed that talks are taking place.

Pjanić could even move in a de facto swap deal with a player like Arthur or Ivan Rakitić, a move that would bring fresh blood into the Barcelona dressing room and also help with balancing the books.

Likeliness: 7/10

Timo Werner: RB Leipzig to Liverpool

With 27 goals in 36 matches for RB Leipzig this season, Timo Werner’s profile has grown and grown and the German is one of the hottest properties on the market right now. Even though they’re already so strong, Liverpool are believed to be the favourites in the race to sign him.

Likeliness: 7/10

Leroy Sané: Manchester City to Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich wanted Leroy Sané last summer before his ACL injury, but this year they could finally get their man. Sané is believed to be keen on a return to his native Germany and the Manchester City man could become the poster boy for Bayern Munich’s new project.

Likeliness: 8/10

Eduardo Camavinga: Rennes to Real Madrid

The 2019/20 season was Eduardo Camavinga’s breakout year. Even though he only just turned 17 in November, the midfielder impressed so much before the suspension of the Ligue 1 season that he has become one of the hottest properties on the market.

Specifically, he has been linked with Real Madrid, who believe who could do a good job of providing cover in midfield, the position where they’re thinnest. However, Camavinga could stay at Rennes to play in the 2020/21 Champions League with the French side and to further his development at a club where he’ll play almost every match. He may make a move to Real Madrid eventually, but it might not be this summer.

Likeliness: 4/10

Jadon Sancho: Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United

It was already reported in April that Manchester United believe they have everything in place to be able to sign Jadon Sancho. It might not be that simple as Borussia Dortmund are famously tough negotiators, but it does seem that Sancho could be on the move to United this summer for the right price.

Likeliness: 5/10

Olivier Giroud: Chelsea to Inter

With only 684 minutes so far in the 2019/20 season before the coronavirus-related halt, Chelsea's Giroud is looking for a new home and he could find a home at Inter Milan. The Frenchman has worked with Antonio Conte before and the Italian knows exactly what he can offer and how effective he can be without necessarily getting on the scoresheet every game.

Likeliness: 7/10

Thomas Meunier: PSG to Tottenham

With Thomas Meunier’s PSG contract set to expire in the summer, he is one of the top free agents on the market. After being heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund in March, the Belgian full-back is now being strongly linked with Tottenham

There is surely still some way to go in the Meunier saga, especially as he holds so much leverage in one of the most unique transfer markets ever.

Likeliness: 4/10

André Onana: Ajax to Chelsea

Ajax goalkeeper André Onana wants to embark on a new adventure and Ajax coach Erik ten Hag has admitted that the club will let the player leave for the right price. Given Chelsea’s doubts over Kepa Arrizabalaga, he is an option for the London club and they’ve just done business with Ajax in their deal for Hakim Ziyech.

There will be other clubs interested in the Cameroonian, though, and he has also been linked with a move back to his former club Barcelona. It seems that Chelsea are in pole position for now, but there are several laps left in this race.

Likeliness: 6/10

Sergio Reguilón: Real Madrid to Sevilla

With Real Madrid having both Marcelo and Ferland Mendy for their left-back minutes, Sergio Reguilón was sent out on loan to Sevilla this season to earn game time and to develop as a player. That’s exactly what happened, as he has earned the sixth most minutes of all players in the Sevilla squad this season and as he has grown into an even better full-back.

With Marcelo and Mendy still at Real Madrid and with both likely to stay at the Bernabéu for another year, Reguilón may need to leave once again. As such, another deal could be worked out between Real Madrid and Sevilla for him to go on loan once again, or to even sign on a permanent transfer that includes a buy-back clause.

Likeliness: 7/10

Lautaro Martínez: Inter to Barcelona

Barcelona have been linked with Lautaro Martínez for several weeks now as they seek a long-term replacement to Luis Suárez. The problem is that Barcelona don’t have much money to spend. They’d need to sell several players to bring in some cash and, even then, they might struggle to reach the 111 million euros of Lautaro Martínez’s release clause

It would almost be financially irresponsible for Barcelona to push this move through, making this deal less likely than it might appear.

Likeliness: 4/10
