Football Season Review

№10: Admira Wacker

After enjoying several consecutive seasons in which they punched above their weight, reality finally set in for Admira, who spent the majority of the campaign battling against the drop. The autumn season was a disastrous one for the Modlingers. They were by far the worst side in the league for the majority of the first half of the season, with the results making Ernst Baumeister's position as their manager untenable. They replaced Baumeister with Reiner Geyer, who had no previous experience of managing in Austria and failed to make an immediate impact. However, the German manager had the winter break to stamp his mark on the squad and did an excellent job of it. A few useful signings were made but, more importantly, Admira looked a much more organized side after the winter break and displayed top half form for the majority of the spring season. Sasa Kaladzic's return to fitness following a long-term injury was also a major boost and the Modlingers eventually managed to secure their survival with a game to spare. Geyer has done a stellar job with the limited time and resources he had. It remains to be seen if he can kick on following the upcoming summer break.
