Football Season Review

№9: Altach

After enjoying a disappointing 2017/18 season, Altach opted to part ways with Klaus Schmidt and replace him with the inexperienced Werner Grabherr. The decision to promote from within and give a young manager a chance to manage them might have been admirable, but backfired badly, as the Altachers spent the vast majority of the season badly struggling against the drop. Grabherr managed to keep his job past the winter break despite the underwhelming results, but the board opted to act early in the spring season and relieve him of his duties. The Altachers did not really improve under their temporary managerial team, but the board's decision to appoint Dutch manager Alex Pastoor proved to have been a great one, as Altach greatly improved under him and managed to secure their survival with few problems. With Pastoor quickly helping them secure their survival, the remaining question was whether he would stay at the club past his original deal, which expired at the end of the season. Despite initially strongly suggesting that he will be returning to the Netherlands, Pastoor has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2019/20 season. It remains to be seen if the Altachers can build on the promise shown under the Dutchman in the second half of the campaign.
