A great debut season in modern day top flight league for Fortaleza. The Northeasterns had a great run, especially in the two periods where they had the exciting Rogério Ceni as their coach. Fortaleza were one of the most pleasant teams to watch in 2019. Rogério Ceni will remain at the helm, and that can only mean great things for 'Leão do Pici'. Ceni had such an impressive job that Cruzeiro hired him in the middle of last season to try and save them from the disaster they were in. It didn't work, and the former goalkeeper was back to Fortaleza in what seems a match made in heaven for both parts. Fortaleza employed a very bold attacking 4-2-4 in most games when Ceni was in the dugout, and team is expected to continue playing in that format. The risky strategy usually costs a few heavy defeats but at least during last season it was a small price to pay for an overall great campaign. Most players leaving were expected to leave already as they were on loan. Most of them were attackers, as the attack was the department where the team made most of their changes for 2020. Defence and midfield remain almost unchanged. Unlike the usual big bundle of new players, Fortaleza opted for some chirurgical new signings. Midfielder Michel and winger David should have an immediate impact. High hopes on youngster Yuri César. Despite having one of the smallest squads in league, Fortaleza seems to have two good options for every spot. Except perhaps for the striker position. Fortaleza have many good mobile forwards, but they seem to still heavily rely on the veteran Wellington Paulista for the no. 9 position.

Target

Fortaleza will try to prove that last season was not fortuitous, and there should be no reason for them to struggle this time around. A mid-table position is expected.
