Could Elfsborg finally be finding the right formula? The eighth place finish of 2019 was their best placing for a while, and the performances were also much better. Jimmy Thelin has been given time and patience for this long term project and he will be delighted that it is finally looking like paying dividends after plenty of lean months. The squad remains mostly the same as last year, with little in terms of eye opening transfer activity anywhere in the Allsvenskan, but Thelin will know just the sort of player he wants and he has experience in working within a tight budget. Elfsborg finished 19 points behind the top four, and that is a gap that has grown over time. They just haven't been able to compete with the top teams for some while, and that still remains the case. But there are still teams directly above them that they will hope to catch up with, and if the pendulum keeps swinging Thelin's way they will make inroads in the top half this season.

Target

Elfsborg will want to better their eighth place finish from 2019, and with no real expectations to pull up trees they can keep progressing at their own pace. A return to the bottom half won't be tolerated though. Prediction: 7th
