After a horrendous campaign in 2016, which saw the early departure of manager Owen Coyle, the Houston Dynamo will be hoping to climb the table in 2017 and perhaps make a push for the playoffs in the Western Conference. Under the leadership of Wilmer Cabrera this season, it will be interesting to see which direction the Dynamo take, especially considering the large number of players they have brought in for the new campaign. With most of their signings coming from the South American leagues, it’s hard to say how well they will adapt to the North American style of soccer, however, some of them certainly look promising and will be hoping to make a considerable impact for the Texan side. Alberth Elis looks to be an exciting loan prospect from Monterrey, and will be hoping to bolster the oranges’ attacking line up. The same goes for Jose Escalante, Vicente Sanchez, and Romell Quioto, who will all look to provide an offensive spark to a side that failed to find the back of the net enough last season. AJ DeLaGarza arrival from the Los Angeles Galaxy will certainly shore up Wilmer Cabrera’s defence, with the 29 year old having plenty of MLS experience. Cristian Maidana’s departure will most definitely be a blow for the club going forward, with the former Philadelphia man proving to be a creative spark last year. The half a million pound transfer fee will however be welcomed by the Dynamo, who can invest in other areas of the team. Similarly, Will Bruin has also departed the club, after a move to the Seattle Sounders. After scoring a number of goals towards the end of last season, Mauro Manotas could prove to be a key player for Houston this campaign.

Target

With a new manager and lots of new faces, any improvement on last year will be considered a success.
