Last season was a big disappointment for the New England Revolution, with the team from Foxboro missing out on the final playoff position in the Eastern Conference table on goal difference. A stop and start campaign certainly didn’t help their chances, with inconsistent performances constant thwarting their attempts to establish a firm hold in the table. This season, the Revolution will certainly be looking to improve, and will want to make sure that they reach the playoffs at a minimum. Jay Heaps’ team have been remarkably quiet in the transfer window so far, with not many players coming or going. Slovenian defender Antonio Delamea Mlinar will hope to shore up the Revolution’s defence, which conceded a total of 54 goals last year. He could be partnered by thirty year old Benjamin Angoua, who arrives on loan from Guingamp, looking to be a solid prospect. Bobby Shuttleworth has now left the club, meaning that Brad Knighton will be the main man between the sticks this year. Gershon Koffie and Charlie Davies have meanwhile both departed the club, in addition to promising youngster Femi Hollinger-Janzen. While the Revolution have strengthened in some areas, they could do with a few extra signings is they wish to make a real impact this season. The return of Xavier Kouassi will however feel like a new player for them, with the former FC Sion man failing to make a single appearance last year. With New England taking on the Colorado Rapids away from home in their first game, they could not have asked for a tougher start to the season. With the Rapids currently on a season long home undefeated streak, a point, or even a win here would prove to be a massive result to build on for the rest of the campaign.

Target

With their pre-season departures and limited additions, they should aim for the bottom end of the playoffs.
