Football Season Review

№4: Arsenal

Arsenal brought the curtain down on season 2013/14 with a three two win in the FA Cup Final at Wembley against Hull City. The Gunners came from two down to triumph in extra time. Aaron Ramsey was the goal hero. Prior to that Arsene Wenger's side were two nil winners in their final Premier League game of the season against already relegated Norwich City. Arsenal finished the season fourth in the table, collecting a total of seventy nine points, seven points behind league winners Manchester City. A top four finish was the minimum target for the Gunners, so Wenger has once again delivered. The FA Cup win was a welcome bonus after nine years of not winning a trophy. Arsenal started the season ever so strongly, but injuries once again took their toll and they fell away poorly after Christmas. Heavy defeats against the top three made it almost impossible for Arsenal to finish any higher in the table. Ramsey was a key figure, but spent a lot of time on the sidelines with a couple of various injuries. He was sorely missed, his goals in particular. Injuries also prevented the likes of Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere, Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla having the impact they might have otherwise enjoyed. Wenger looks all but certain to remain at the helm for at least another season or two. He could do with adding another goalscoring striker to the squad - that seems to be the main priority in pre-season. With fewer injuries and a couple of additions there is no reason why they can not be real contenders for the title again next season.
