Football Season Review

№3: Chelsea

Chelsea completed their Premier League season with a two one win on the road against already relegated Cardiff City. Andre Schurrle and Fernando Torres got the goals. With Liverpool also collecting a win at the same time, the three points in Wales were not enough to lift the Blues up to second in the table. Jose Mourinho's side finished the season third in the table, three points ahead of third placed Arsenal. The target at the start of the season was to win the title - regardless of what Mourinho stated publicly. In that respect the objective was not achieved, however they were in the title race right up until the final couple of games and were never in any danger of not finishing in the top four. In the Champions League they had designs on lifting the trophy but were knocked out in the semi finals, so again they failed to live up to expectations. Chelsea were the proud owners of the tightest defence in the league, with Gary Cahill in particular having an excellent season. However, at the other end they struggled for goals and managed just seventy one in total. On the face of it that looks a decent return, but both Liverpool and Manchester City breached the 100 mark. Mourinho remains at the helm for the new season, and has already stated that he is under pressure to deliver success and trophies. He will certainly be adding at least one established striker to the squad in pre-season and maybe more.
