Kiel never really got going last season and, compared to the previous year, were largely disappointing. Young coach Ole Werner took charge after the sacking of Andre Schmidt and results improved, unfortunately injuries hit them in the second-half of the campaign and they eventually finished 11th. Werner has looked to improve his squad for the coming season, especially in defensive areas where they struggled, he has also offloaded some fringe players. Simon Lorenz and Marco Komenda will hopefully provide some steel at centre-back, while midfielders Ahmet Arslan and Niklas Hauptmann will help to bolster the midfield, the latter to hopefully replace the influential Salih Ozkan who returned to Koln from his loan spell. Going forward was certainly a strength for Kiel last season and is an area which you expect them to be strong again. Jani Luca Serra was in good form before his injury last season and he will no doubt be amongst the goals again, keeping hold of main man Jae-Sung Lee is another boost for Werner’s men, as is the free transfer of experienced striker Fin Bartels.

Target

Top 6- Kiel should be aiming to get back into the top six places, on their day they are capable of competing with the best teams, however, they will need to be more difficult to beat and improve against the lesser sides if they are to have a successful season.
