Sheffield Wednesday have had a very quiet summer on the transfer front. At the time of writing they have yet to make a single signing with several players leaving. Ross Wallace and Glenn Loovens were both released while Jack Hunt and Jordan Rhodes have also departed for pastures new. The Owls at least have Sam Winnall back from a very promising loan spell at Derby. Wednesday were hit hard by injuries last season. They had a lengthy list all the way through the campaign so have a big squad as a result. That may well be one reason for lack of signings and boss Jos Luhukay, who came in halfway through the season, may well feel he has effectively several new signings from which to choose from. Fernando Forestieri missed much of last season but is a big player while Wednesday have further attacking threats in Gary Hooper and Steven Fletcher, also hit hard by injuries. Keiren Westwood is another who is fit and firing after a frustrating campaign last season but there is doubt over his future. Wednesday should be stronger all over the pitch with more players fitter than last time out. But whether they have the required strength to improve on last season remains to be seen. Luhukay also did not really prove himself at Hillsborough in the season just gone so the jury is still out on whether he is the right man. A poor start could put him under immediate pressure so it is not straightforward to see how Wednesday's campaign may start.

Target

Wednesday will want an improvement on last season but whether that is possible or not is uncertain. They may look to make late signings to improve the squad.
