Football Season Guide

Considering the fans and the president’s expectations, the last season was a huge disappointment for the Yellow Canaries. They lost the title race in the league against Besiktas. Besides suffering a narrow defeat in the cup final against Galatasaray, they were eliminated from the Europa League by Braga. The fans were clearly not happy with coach Vitor Pereira’s mentality and team’s playing style. Their formation enabled them to be the lowest conceding team of the last season but their offensive performance was not satisfactory. They were unable to produce many goal chances because of the coach’s formation choice. Although Fernandao and Robin Van Persie have produced fourty-seven goals totally, they were not able to produce a good performance in some decisive fixtures. Except them, Nani could meet the expectations with his 12 goals and 12 assists performance. At this point, the trio remained alone and could not get enough help from their teammates. For years, the away performance has been known as the weakest part of the team. Once again, they lost many points on the road. It was expected that the president was going to part company with the coach but he did not. Most of the fans were not happy with this decision and they felt worried about the current season. Unfortunately, their worries became real and they failed to eliminate Monaco in the 3rd round of UCL. It caused the murmurs be heard more. In the summer, the fans saw many departures including regulars Alves, Caner Erkin, Gokhan, Nani. In order to replace the defensive losses, they added Neustadter, Skrtel, Ismail Koybasi and van der Wiel. For now, it is a question mark whether they will find the rhythm or not. In the midfield, the sole transfer is Chahechouhe but some fans disagree to sign a player from a relegated team. There is no doubt that it could make a pressure on him. Up front, they have Emenike back from his loan spell. Along with Fernandao and van Persie, they seem pretty good on the paper but it could change when it comes to the pitch. At the back, they seem ok but they look short in the midfield. During the busy schedule, they could face injuries and bans. So they need to sign a few midfielders or promote some young players from the reserve team.
