Football Season Review

№22: Orlando City SC

Orlando City failed to improve on a dismal 2018 campaign, finishing the season once again at 11th place in the Eastern Conference table as they struggled for consistency, especially in the second half of the campaign. Orlando were in around the playoffs spots in the first half of the season but a major drop in form after June saw them win just three games and end the campaign on the back of an eight-match winless streak. The arrivals of Nani, Sebastian Mendez and Tesho Akindele promised for an exciting offense for Orlando but niggling injuries meant that coach O'Connor struggled to field a settled lineup in the attack though they did show flashes of potential. Orlando did improve noticeably in the defense, conceding far less goals than their previous campaign, but it was their struggles up front that proved to be a major problem for O'Connor with Orlando ending the season scoring 44 goals, just one more than 2018 despite heavy investment. Another failure in the quest for the playoffs meant O'Connor has been let go at the end of the season and Orlando are yet to announce his successor. The new arrival will take over a team with potential but injuries and a more solid defense will be key for Orlando to emerge as genuine challengers for the playoffs spots.
